Eines der gefährlichsten Missionen abseits des Afghanistankrieges war die Operation Pegasus der Bundeswehr und Royal Air Force. Dabei sollten 132 Zivilisten, darunter 22 deutsche, meist Tätig bei Ölfirmen im Auftrag der Firma Winterschall aus dem umkämpften Gebiet gerettet werden.
Diese Operation war wichtig, da einige Menschen vorher verzweifelt keine Ausreisemöglichkeiten erreichen konnten und daher sich bei Nafurah geflüchtet haben. Zwei Marineschiffe, the Brandenburg and Rhineland-Palatinate were also brought to the coast in position and so Transallmaschinen flew two German and two transport aircraft of the Royal Air Force of Crete towards Libya. Neither the Libyan government nor the rebels have been informed. All the people were gathered there. On 28 February, two days later, repeated the British armed forces this operation.
